Berlin M. Haugen - President & CEO
Berlin is an expert in the area of private equity deal origination, and has led numerous buyside acquisition search engagements to source and originate both platform and add-on acquisitions for private equity groups, their portfolio companies, and non-sponsor backed strategic buyers. Berlin has over a decade of M&A industry experience and has completed over 50 transactions in his career, dozens with a private equity group with an aggregate enterprise value in the many hundreds of millions of dollars located from Southern California to Northern Maine and everywhere in between, as well as internationally. Berlin has completed transactions in the manufacturing, distribution, business services, consumer products, financial services, food, lumber, pharmaceuticals, automotive, construction, technology, software, healthcare, medical device, laboratory, staffing, electronics, and digital marketing industries…just to name a few.
Prior to founding BowPoint, Berlin was the Managing Director at Pritchard Osborne Equity Ventures, a St. Louis based investment banking firm that provided sellside and buyside M&A advisory services to business owners. Berlin led the firm to achieve several key milestones, including its largest transaction by deal size, its first deal with a private equity group, and its first cross-border transaction. Berlin eventually orchestrated his own management buyout of Pritchard Osborne Equity Ventures in 2014, making it the predecessor firm of BowPoint today. Berlin began his career at one of the largest financial advisory and investment banking firms in the world, Raymond James & Associates (NYSE: RJF).

Berlin earned his Bachelor of Science in Economics and Finance from Murray State University and was recognized for his research into the field of mergers and acquisitions. Berlin is also a graduate of the esteemed Clayton Chamber of Commerce Leadership Clayton program which selects a small handful of emerging leaders in the community each year. Additionally, Berlin earned his Certificate in Exit Planning from Exit Planning Institute (www.exit-planning-institute.org), the authority in exit planning and value acceleration serving the educational needs of M&A intermediaries.
Tom J. Phelps - Senior Managing Director
Tom is a veteran M&A intermediary and has been involved in over 200 unique M&A transactions during his career, working on the buyside, sellside, and as the principal buyer himself in transactions. In addition to his experience having served with three other investment banking and M&A advisory firms and as a management consultant over the years, Tom also has vast direct operating experience and has served as the President, COO, and CFO of several middle market companies in a diverse range of industries both domestically and abroad. Prior to this, Tom was a senior executive for a Fortune 500 publicly traded conglomerate which had over 100 operating subsidiaries where he oversaw numerous M&A transactions as the company's VP of Strategic Planning & Corporate Development.
Tom is highly experienced in all aspects of deal making, including business analysis, preparation of offering documents, business valuation, negotiation of letters of intent and purchase agreements, transaction due diligence, and turnaround management.
Tom earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Missouri and earned his MBA in Finance from Southern Illinois University.
Steve D. Thiele - Vice President
Steve has 9 years of buyside M&A deal origination industry experience and has sourced and completed over $200 Million in proprietary lower middle market platform and add-on acquisitions nationwide for private equity groups and has worked across dozens of industry verticals, sub-verticals, and has touched nearly every imaginable sector during his career.
Prior to joining BowPoint, Steve worked at a boutique investment banking firm which provided buy-side and sell-side mergers and acquisitions services to business owners and private equity groups. Prior to entering the investment banking industry, Steve was an entrepreneur who founded, grew, and sold his own regional route based services company to a strategic buyer. Additionally, Steve served as a business and marketing strategy consultant to the Missouri Small Business & Technology Development Center and as an analyst with the Center for Social Science and Public Policy Research.
Steve earned his Bachelor of Science in Finance and minor in Entrepreneurship, with honors, from Missouri State University and was the Founder of the Investment Banking Society and the President of The Entrepreneurship & Innovation Association.
David R. Pritchard, CPA, CM&AA - Director
David is a veteran M&A transaction intermediary with decades of experience and has been involved in hundreds of millions of dollars of M&A transactions over his career. In addition to his experience as a CPA having founded, led, and merged his own regional public accounting firm he has also been the founding shareholder of a boutique investment banking firm as well as an investor, Director, and/or President of several companies which he helped to grow and sell. David is a highly active angel investor and sits on the investment committee of the Missouri Founders Technology Fund and is a mentor at Cultivation Capital, a venture capital firm.
David is highly experienced in all aspects of deal making, including business and financial analysis, preparation of offering documents, business valuation, negotiation of letters of intent and purchase agreements, and transaction due diligence.
David earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Eastern Illinois University, he is a certified public accountant (CPA) and member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), he is a Certified Merger and Acquisition Advisor (CM&AA) and a member of the Alliance of Merger & Acquisition Advisors.
