Berlin M. Haugen - President & CEO
Berlin is an expert in the area of deal generation, and has led numerous buyside acquisition search engagements to originate transactions for private equity groups, their portfolio companies, and non-sponsor backed strategic buyers and has facilitated the completion of 46 transactions, 28 with a private equity group with deals located across 19 U.S. States and Canada. Completed transactions have been in the manufacturing, distribution, services, consumer products, food, lumber, pharmaceuticals, automotive, construction, technology, software, healthcare, medical device, laboratory, staffing, electronics, and digital marketing industries.
Prior to founding BowPoint, Berlin was the Managing Director at Pritchard Osborne Equity Ventures, a St. Louis based investment banking firm that provided M&A advisory services to business owners. Berlin led the firm to achieve several key milestones, including its largest transaction by deal size, its first deal with a private equity group, and its first cross-border transaction. Berlin orchestrated the buyout of Pritchard Osborne Equity Ventures in 2014, making it the predecessor of BowPoint today. Berlin began his career at one of the largest financial advisory and investment banking firms in the world, Raymond James & Associates (NYSE: RJF).

Berlin earned his Bachelors of Science in Economics and Finance from Murray State University and was recognized for his research into the field of mergers and acquisitions. Berlin is also a graduate of the esteemed Clayton Chamber of Commerce Leadership Clayton program which selects a small handful of emerging leaders in the community each year. Additionally, Berlin earned his Certificate in Exit Planning from Exit Planning Institute (www.exit-planning-institute.org), the authority in exit planning and value acceleration serving the educational needs of M&A Advisors.
Tom J. Phelps - Senior Managing Director
Tom is a veteran investment banker and M&A advisor and has been involved in over 200 M&A transactions over his career.
In addition to his experience having served with three other M&A advisory firms and as a management consultant, Tom has vast operating experience himself having served as the President, CEO, COO, and CFO of several privately held mid-sized companies in a diverse range of industries. Prior to this, he was a senior executive for a Fortune 500 publicly traded conglomerate which had over 100 operating subsidiaries where he oversaw numerous M&A transactions as the company's VP of Strategic Planning & Corporate Development.
Tom is highly experienced in all aspects of deal making, including business analysis, preparation of offering documents, business valuation, negotiation of letters of intent and purchase agreements, transaction due diligence, and turnaround management.
Tom earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Missouri and earned his MBA in Finance from Southern Illinois University.
Steve D. Thiele - Vice President
Steve has eight years of M&A industry experience, he has played an integral role in numerous sell side advisory engagements, and on the buy side he has sourced and completed over 20 proprietary lower middle market transactions nationwide for private equity groups seeking to locate new platforms and add-on investments.
Prior to joining BowPoint, Steve worked at a boutique investment banking firm which provided buy-side and sell-side mergers and acquisitions services to business owners and private equity groups. Prior to entering the investment banking industry, Steve was also an entrepreneur who founded, grew, and sold his own regional route based services company to a strategic buyer. Additionally, Steve has served as a business and marketing strategy consultant to the Missouri Small Business & Technology Development Center and as an analyst with the Center for Social Science and Public Policy Research.
Steve earned his Bachelor of Science in Finance and minor in Entrepreneurship, with honors, from Missouri State University and was the Founder of the Investment Banking Society and the President of The Entrepreneurship & Innovation Association.
Eric S. Ogren - Vice President
Eric has ten years of M&A industry experience, and in addition to his involvement in sell side engagements, on the buy-side he has sourced and completed nearly $300 Million in proprietary deals for private equity groups and corporate acquirers across a variety of industries including: manufacturing, consumer products, aerospace, laboratory, healthcare, and chemicals.
Prior to joining BowPoint, Eric spent five years at a boutique investment banking firm where he focused exclusively on sourcing proprietary platform and add-on acquisitions and became their top performing deal origination associate during his tenure. In addition to his investment banking experience, Eric worked directly for a middle market private equity group as their Senior Business Development Associate responsible for deal origination and screening, and worked for a private online investment platform where he was responsible for originating and analyzing investment opportunities in the consumer products space for accredited investors. Eric began his career as an investment representative with the multinational banking and financial services company JP Morgan Chase (NYSE: JPM).
Eric earned his Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Arizona State University and is currently pursuing his MBA at the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University.
David R. Pritchard, CPA, CM&AA - Director
David is a tenured M&A transaction advisor and has been involved in hundreds of millions of dollars of M&A transactions over his career.
In addition to his experience as a CPA having founded, led, and merged his own regional mid-size public accounting firm he has also been the founding shareholder, investor, Director, and/or President of several companies, including one that grew to $6 Million before being sold and another that grew to $25 Million. David is a highly active angel investor and sits on the investment committee of the Missouri Founders Technology Fund and is a mentor at Cultivation Capital, a venture capital firm.
David is highly experienced in all aspects of deal making, including business and financial analysis, preparation of offering documents, business valuation, negotiation of letters of intent and purchase agreements, and transaction due diligence.
David earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Eastern Illinois University, he is a certified public accountant (CPA) and member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and he is a Certified Merger and Acquisition Advisor (CM&AA) and member of the Alliance of Merger & Acquisition Advisors.
